The first edition of the Geneva Annual Blockchain Congress (GABC) was organized with my support, and took place on January 21, 2019, the day before the 49th Davos World Economic Forum.

The GABC was intended for executives and senior officials from the private sector, the public sector and cross-border organizations, and has the goal of encouraging the international community to rise to the challenges of governance, legislation and ethics in connection with blockchain technologies. The theme line of the event – at which I gave the closing address – was “From lab to market”.

During the day-long conference, particular focus was given to the subjects of identity and e-government, fintech, education, raw materials trading, and commercial procurement lines. The event was summed up by Don Tapscott – a worldwide guru on the subject – by the statement, “Blockchain will change our lives even more than the Internet”. Geneva has the potential to become a key focal point for this technology.
